Reflexology is based on the premise that there are reflex areas, zones, and meridians in the feet, hands and ears that correspond to all organs, glands, systems, and parts of the human body. For example:

  • The tips of the toes reflect the head
  • The heart and chest are around the ball of the foot
  • The liver, pancreas and kidney are in the arch of the foot
  • Low back and intestines are towards the heel

Specific pressures are applied to the reflex points. A scientific explanation is that the pressure may send signals that balance the nervous system or release chemicals such as endorphins that reduce pain and stress. Reflexologists work from the ankles to the toes, and from the wrists to the fingers, and around the surfaces of the outer ear. If you are ticklish, don’t worry - the firm pressure will not tickle. One remains fully clothed, only the shoes and socks are removed.

Reflexology promotes relaxation, improves circulation, reduces pain, soothes tired feet, and encourages overall healing.
